Corbel Installation

Things To Remember

  • Corbels are a decorative and aesthetic accessory to your mantel.
  • The weight of the mantel will be held by either the metal straps or the 2x4/2x6/2x8/2x10 (if notched) and not on the corbels themselves.

Notched Mantel Back

  • NOTE:  Be sure to install the corbels onto the mantel before you install the mantel onto the 2x4/2x6/2x8/2x10.
  • Apply some wood adhesive onto the top of the corbel and secure it to the bottom of the mantel in the desired location.
  • Use wood angle screws to secure the corbels to the mantel by drilling down at an angle into the corbel.
  • Wood adhesive and wood angle screws are not included with your corbels.

Metal Straps

  • NOTE:  Depending on your desired final look for your fireplace, you may want your corbels to lay on top of the stone or brick and not buried inside of your stone (i.e. your stone/brick is installed around your mantel and corbels).  If this is the case, you will want to follow the Notched Mantel Back instructions above to install your corbels.
  • If you choose to have your corbels inside of your stone/brick, you would simply hang the corbel onto the metal strap and secure it that way.
