Installation & Mounting Guidelines

FLOATING SHELVES

We always recommend you use the services of a professional contractor to ensure your mantel is correctly and safely installed.

Floating Shelf Installation

Installation hardware is not included

INSTALLATION:  BRACKET vs. NOTCHING

You can install your shelf using brackets you have purchased elsewhere.  Bracket installation offers the easiest and quickest way to install your floating shelf.  When purchasing your brackets, please make sure that they can hold the weight of the floating shelf, but also the weight of any objects you would like to place on top of it.  Our floating shelves are made from solid timber wood and can weigh between 20-50 pounds, depending on the size you order.

NOTCHING:

Notching is available only on shelves that are 3"x6" or 4"x8".

Tools & Materials Needed (not included)

  • Masonry screws
  • Drill
  • Construction glue
  • 2x4 cut down to almost half to fit the notched area

Installation Instructions

  1. Locate on your wall where you want your shelf to rest.
  2. Mount a 2x4 on the wall into the studs.  The entire weight of the shelf will be on the 2x4, so be sure that it is well secured.  NOTE: You will have to cut down your 2x4 to almost half to fit inside the notched area of your shelf.
  3. Add construction glue onto the cut-down 2x4
  4. Place your shelf on the cut-down 2x4 and screw from the top of your shelf down into the 2x4.  We suggest using 3 to 4 screws from the top and 2 screws from the bottom up.
